George Slavik III is a fifth year student in the Architectural Engineering Program at Penn State. He will graduate in May 2010 with a Bachelors of Architectural Engineering specializing in Mechanical Systems. George was born in Binghamton, NY and graduated from Binghamton High School in 2005 with high honors.

George grew up working for his father’s business Piccirilli-Slavik & Vincent Plumbing and Heating located in Binghamton, NY. Beginning at the age of 13, George spent his summers installing commercial and residential plumbing and heating systems. This was an incredible experience and taught him the value of dedication, hard work, and craftsmanship. This real world field experience turned out to be an excellent accent to his studies at Penn State.

During the summer of 2008, George participated in the study abroad program and spent seven weeks living in the heart of Rome, Italy. He had the time of his life studying architecture, traveling, and enjoying the unbelievable wine and food of the region. During the following summer of 2009, George moved to Dulles, VA to intern for Southland Industries. At Southland, George worked on the mechanical design of the Walter Reed National Military Medical Hospital in Bethesda, MD.

All of George’s experiences have shaped him to be the person he is today. The unique experience of first learning to install mechanical systems, then learning to design these systems have given George excellent training in his career path. George looks forward to attaining a position as a design engineer upon graduation, and ultimately wants to design high performance and energy efficient buildings. Outside academics, George is an avid sports fan and golfer. George loves the New York Yankees, the New York Giants, and of course the Penn State Nittany Lions.

In October 2009, George passed the FE Exam and will be receiving his E.I.T. Certificate Upon Graduation. After receiving career opportunities in Chicago, New York, Washington, and Boston, George has decided to move back home to Binghamton, NY to work in the family business. He Plans on working towards earning his Professional Engineering Liscensure as well as L.E.E.D Accredidation. George Plans on transforming his company into the areas premier sustainable contractor in his region.
