The process of completing my senior thesis has been beneficial for me and my education at Penn State. As a student, I was able to immerse myself in the professional world, building relationships with building owners, architects, engineering consultants, and manufacturers. It was through these interactions that I saw the greatest benefits of doing this senior thesis project. I was fortunate enough to have internships during the summers that surrounded me with excellent people that took the time to teach me HVAC design. Because of those internships, I always felt a certain advantage in the classroom in that I had done many of the things we learned during my work experience. This meant that I was learning the principles for a second time which is a huge advantage in gaining a more thorough understanding. What I observed from thesis is that it served to help those students who were not as fortunate as I was to have summer internships catch up. With that in mind, I did not benefit from doing thesis as much as I think some students did. Again, most of the processes I went through in doing my thesis was for a second time which made it slightly redundant. I will admit though, that practice does make perfect.
