While great efforts have been taken to provide accurate and complete information on the pages of CPEP, please be aware that the information contained herewith is considered a work‐in progress for this thesis project. Modifications and changes related to the original building designs and construction methodologies for this senior thesis project are solely the interpretation of Darre’ll Alston. Changes and discrepancies in no way imply that the original design contained errors or was flawed. Differing assumptions, code references, requirements, and methodologies have been incorporated into this thesis project; therefore, investigation results may vary from the original design.

Reports

Technical Assignment One:

Construction Project Management is the in-depth research analysis behind the Technical Assignment One. After implementing a thorough investigation, this project theme has sparked the notion of existing standards and their role with project delivery phases.  This notion was examined with the 798,000 square foot Duval County Unified Courthouse Facility (DCUCF) construction project and its obstacle to find financial prosperity. This report entails detailed topics consisting of: project schedule, building systems summary, project cost evaluation, existing conditions, local conditions, client information, project delivery method, and staffing plan.

Technical Assignment Two:

Project performance is the basis of research analysis behind the Technical Assignment Two. After implementing a thorough investigation, this project theme has sparked the notion of existing standards and their role with project delivery phases.  This notion was examined with the 798,000 square foot Duval County Unified Courthouse Facility (DCUCF) construction project and its obstacle to find financial prosperity.  While the construction industry was in turmoil from rising material costs, the DCUCF sought guidance under its city government and Turner Construction Company’s project management team.  Through positive measures, this team was able to construct a financially stable estimate and an efficient schedule.  Along with overcoming this hardship, Turner Construction Company had to deal with the Duval County Unified Courthouse Facility’s site logistics and the surrounding community.  The project location is in the heart of the mainstream intersection of Monroe Street and Clay Street.  Alternate routes had to be devised while maintaining vehicular traffic flow to keep the Jacksonville City operable.

Technical Assignment Three:

Identification of areas of the project that will serve as good candidates for research, alternative methods, value engineering, and schedule compression is the basis of the Technical Assignment Three for the Duval County Unified Courthouse Facility (DCUCF). Once completed, this project will be one of the largest structures in the Jacksonville, Florida area with a size measuring in at approximately 798,000 SF. With such a large-scale parameter, simulated problematic areas can be identifiable (but are subjective by the reviewer) for study and are awaiting confirmation in the form of an interview with the project manager of the project.  Since contact is still in progress for an interview, issues for examination of constructability challenges, schedule acceleration scenarios, and value engineering topics will be added as an addendum at a later date.

The contents of this report were studied for possible improvements sought out for project success and do not reflect current problematic areas. The topics to be carried out in thorough procedural examination include: installation of prefabricated floor planks, incorporation of a structural steel system, integration of a green roof, and addition of a photovoltaic system.
