AE 481W AND AE 482 COURSE REFLECTIONS

AE 481W Course Reflection

AE 481 W was a very valuable part of my senior capstone project. The assignments, such as building statistics parts one and two, technical reports one, two, and three, thesis abstract, and final thesis proposal, were designed to analyze the River Vue Apartments project and accumulate and understand all of the important details of the building's existing conditions, new systems, and the project's construction methods and issues. The final thesis proposal was the most beneficial part of this course because it helped me understand how important it is to have a vision for a project and then determine the best plan to achieve that initial vision. In addition, since the course satisfied the writing across the curriculum requirement for graduation, my technical writing skills increased higher in quality.

AE 482 Course Reflection

AE 482 was much more challenging; however, it was the most valuable part of my senior capstone project. Researching and implementing the areas that interested me, such as energy conservation and efficient, effective, and quality construction methods, were the most beneficial parts of this senior capstone project experience. Another invaluable part about this course was that all of the architectural engineering knowledge accumulated over five years was used to produce a design and construction goal for the River Vue Apartments project and achieve that goal. In addition, I believe this course increased my knowledgement of the construction industry and how important it is to design a sustainable building and eliminate construction issues through quality control technologies and practices.

CPEP REFLECTION

The Capstone Project Electronic Portfolio (CPEP) was one of my favorite aspects of the senior capstone project requirements. I had very little experience in creating websites prior to this year, but Adobe's Dreamweaver was very easy to understand and use to create my CPEP website. The CPEP website is a very beneficial tool to display the senior capstone project's work that I accomplished throughout the year. In addition, it is very valuable to the AE students, AE professors, industry members, and the general public if they are interested in viewing the senior capstone project work completed on River Vue Apartments.

Special thanks to Turner Construction Company, especially Mr. Kevin Ludwick and Mr. Chris DiLorenzo, for providing all the information pertaining to River Vue Apartments. Another special thanks to IDG, LLP, especially Mr. Todd Havekotte, for providing all renderings for the project. Finally, special thanks to River Vue Associates, LP and Millcraft Industries, Inc. for providing owner's permission on the River Vue Apartments project to complete this AE senior thesis.
