Student Biography

 

 


Gjon Tomaj is currently a 5th Year of study in the Architectural Engineering Program at The Pennsylvania State University. In May 2014, he will graduate with a Bachelor of Architectural Engineering degree with a focus in Construction Management. During his time at Penn State he has become involved in several organizations and had two professional experiences in the construction industry.

 

-- Professional Experience --

Gjon has had two professional experiences in the construction industry working as a Project Engineer with Wohlsen Construction Company, a Construction Manager/General Contractor serving the Mid-Atlantic States Pennsylvania, Delaware, Maryland, New Jersey & Washington DC.

In the summer of 2012 he worked onsite in the construction of a senior living complex in Warminster, PA. Here he was responsible for submittal and RFI preparation and also took part in the punch list processes and building information modeling (BIM) clash detection webinars. He also expertly managed the construction of exterior system mockup that resulted in the successful completion through coordination with subcontractors and adherence to appropriate engineering procedures. The following summer of 2013, Gjon worked on The Mary J. Drexel Assisted Living Addition Project. Here he assumed many of the responsibilities from the previous summer as well as organized pre-installation meetings, estimated work, drafted scope for mansion renovation, and expertly oversaw the site operations while ensuring compliance with safety regulations. Gjon played a pivotal role in the completion of 100-year-old mansion renovation project by actively estimating and preparing project scope and corresponding prices.

Gjon has also received The Clark Construction Group - Charles Merica Memorial Scholarship. Gjon is a dedicated, proactive, and goal-oriented professional powered with solid knowledge in engineering encompassing project management, administrative functions, and onsite operations and will being his career as a Project Engineer/Assistant Project Manager with DAVIS Construction in the summer of 2014.


-- Activities --

Gjon is also involved in many activities outside of academics. He is an active member in the Student Chapter of the Partnership for Achieving Construction Excellence (S:PACE), Student Society of Architectural Engineers (SSAE), and The USGBC Penn State Student Chapter. He enjoys spending time with family and friends; driving and caring for cars; and playing sports such as basketball, baseball, volleyball, and golf.
