Nuclear Design Engineer

What do you do in your current position? I work on nuclear design projects for Beaver Valley Power Station. Beaver Valley provides PKMJ with a design change necessary in the power plant. It is my responsibility to create a design that will meet the standards of the nuclear power industry, and then draft a package to submit to Beaver Valley for acceptance.

How has your PSU engineering education/experiences helped to get you where you are today? Penn State's College of Engineering provided me with the understanding of what was to be expected in the professional work environment. My engineering knowledge gained from my Penn State classes have given me the ability to attack any problems issued to me from my superiors. I learned what was to be expected of me in the Engineering industry and how to start a successful engineering career path.

How has your experience as an EA impacted your professional life so far? Every month, PKMJ holds a department meeting in which a few employees give technical presentations to a large portion of the company. I was asked to create a presentation describing the concept of the "Traveling Wave Reactor." With the knowledge of how to give effective technical presentations, I was able to create an engaging PowerPoint that received positive feedback from the company. The charisma that EA instilled in me has allowed me to communicate with engineers at Beaver Valley Power Station in an effective and productive manner that facilitates the engineering change design process.
