Why did you choose to come to Penn State? I came to Penn State because I was extremely impressed with the opportunities for leadership and hands-on experience outside the classroom offered by the College of Engineering. Also, all of the students I talked to while visiting Penn State were involved with multiple extra-curricular activities. It’s really neat to be at a university with so many unique and well-rounded students.

What has been your best memory as an engineering student? My best memory by far has been my involvement with the Penn State Racing Formula SAE team. I am part of the aerodynamics/ composites, manufacturing, and chassis subsystem groups on the team. I have absolutely loved learning to machine and make parts for our car, getting trained to weld, helping make our carbon fiber side panels and wings, and even driving our car at the test track.

What advice would you give a first-year engineer? Don’t be afraid to put yourself out there and apply yourself even though you may not have much experience yet. There are so many professors, upperclassmen, and graduate students at Penn State and alumni employers who are passionate about teaching young engineers and equipping them to make a difference. They want you to join their labs, project teams, clubs, and companies!

What do you plan to do after graduation? After graduation, I intend to work for an aerospace company designing and building jet engines or defense systems for military aircraft. I am beyond excited to be sponsored by United Technologies for the 2016-17 school year and will be interning at Pratt & Whitney during Summer 2017.

What has been your best experience outside of engineering at Penn State? Going to Penn State football games with my friends. I am the first in my entire family to attend Penn State and continue to be absolutely blown away by the enthusiasm and camaraderie at every game.
