Why did you choose to come to Penn State? I originally chose Penn State as an athlete. As I kid was a fan of PSU Football and it seemed like an amazing opportunity to play for a program like Penn State. So when the opportunity presented itself I did not hesitate. That dream didn’t really come to fruition because of injuries, but I still wanted to stick around at Penn State, even though I play football. That had to mostly do with the environment at Penn State. My first visit at Penn State I immediately had a sense of home and felt part of the PSU family and that was just the first visit, so I knew right after that visit I did not want to go anywhere else but Penn State. The family like environment and a prestigious engineering program were enough to entice me to want to choose Penn State.
What has been your best memory as an engineering student? My best experience as an engineering student has to be my involvement with the College of Engineering through the different organizations I am in: NSBE, MEPO, and Engineering Ambassadors just to name a few. Particularly my involvement with Engineering Ambassadors though is probably my best experience. In EA all the outreach we do with the community and middle and high school students I have first-hand seen myself grow as an individual and seen how we are making an impact in the STEM field.
What advice would you give a first-year engineer? College is supposed to be fun. Yes you want to get good grades and succeed but you have to learn how to balance both school and fun. There is no need to always be cooped up in your room or the library all the time studying, unless you have a huge exam coming up of course. Get out explore the campus, join a club, meet new people, enjoy the college experience. Engineers are stereotyped as being nerdy and socially incompetent which is completely untrue; we love to have fun too. Cause honesty this is the best time of your life, so embrace your inner nerdy and enjoy every second of it.
What do you plan to do after graduation? Right now my plans are kind of up in the air. I most likely will enter the work force but I am also considering grad school or possibly some volunteer work or teaching.
What has been your best experience outside of engineering at Penn State? All the new people I have met. I have met people from all across America and the world. It has made my experience here at Penn State that much more special and enjoyable.
