Why did you choose to come to Penn State? After years of wanting to go anywhere BUT Penn State and touring other colleges, I changed my mind. I realized that at Penn State you get a great engineering curriculum, the support of Penn State's excellent reputation, limitless career opportunities, and fun extra-curricular activities, without paying the tuition of an Ivy League school. What really impacted my decision was participating in the Visit in Engineering Weekend (VIEW) and the Society of Women Engineers High School Stayover during high school. I strongly recommend these multi-day programs!

What has been your best memory as an engineering student? That's a tough question! I really love the involvement opportunities on campus. I was able to help lead both Visit in Engineering Weekend and the Society of Women Engineers High School Stayover—the programs that led me to become a Nittany Lion! It's a great feeling to help inspire others to come to Penn State for engineering, and it's also a great way to give back to the university!

What advice would you give a first-year engineer? Go to the career fair! Attending the career fair early on in your college career shows that you're motivated to excel. Employers will remember you, and if you obtain an internship, you can gain valuable work experience before many of your classmates! Write up a resume including past work and volunteer experience, and introduce yourself to as many industry reps as possible! Also, buy a pair of rainboots.

What do you plan to do after graduation? I plan to go into industry after I graduate. I am currently looking into the steel and oil industries. The best part about engineering is that it gives us so many options!

What has been your best experience outside of engineering at Penn State? I've had internship experiences all four summers since I came to Penn State. Although my experiences were very different from each other, I learned so much, met so many people from across the country, made some extra money, and had the opportunity to travel. These experiences have also helped me refine my goals for after graduation.
I also had the privilege of dancing in the Penn State Dance Marathon 2011 (THON), which was a huge honor and definitely a highlight of my college career! THON raises money for families affected by pediatric cancer--it's a great way to get involved, make a difference, and really come together with other Penn Staters!
