The various recent media articles and programs listed below contain material involving the Antimatter Space Propulsion group at Penn State.

  • Voyage to the Milky Way. A Tom Lucas Production, in association with PBS and Deviller Donegan Enterprises. The film traces historical events such as early rocketry and current events such as solar sails and antimatter propulsion, thus man's path of achievements concerning the ultimate goal of sending a spacecraft to the stars. First aired May 19, 1999 on PBS. You can find a quick review of the program at http://www.pbs.org/whatson/1999/winspring/releases/ voyagetomilkyway.html.

  • The Popular Science article, "Star Travelers", found in the June 1999 edition. Written by Mariette DiChristina. The story features all deep-space propulsion methods current available or in development: fusion, laser light-sails, and antimatter. Most material provided by our NASA sponsor, the Jet Propulsion Laboratory.

  • The Scientific American article, "The Way to Go in Space" . Written by Tim Beardsley, and found in the February 1999 edition. It features commentary provided by Dr. Gerald A. Smith, and Dr. Stephanie Leifer, JPL sponsor, concerning deep-space propulsion methods humankind is currently developing.

  • Discover® magazine in October 1995 published the article, "A Small Problem of Propulsion", which can be found on Discover® Online. Written by Fred Guterl, the article contains a majority of information on Dr Gerald Smith's antimatter innovations with some later discussion of laser light-sail and particle beam concepts.

For additional information regarding antimatter and its use for propulsion, please check Dr. Robert Frisbee's web site at the Jet Propulsion Laboratory.
