GM Innovation Challenge
September 22-October 3, 2014

GM is looking for creative teams to develop and present quick and cost-effective ways of incorporating new and rapidly advancing technologies into existing manufacturing facilities. This challenge is to determine how to utilize wearable and augmented reality technologies in manufacturing or additive manufacturing (3D printing) for manufacturing tooling.

Each team must have 2–4 students. Eligible students must:
  • be at least 18 years of age and able to work in the U.S. without sponsorship
  • have a minimum 3.0 GPA
  • be at least a sophomore, enrolled full time as of fall 2014.
Registration ends at 10:00 p.m. on October 3. An on-campus kick-off will be scheduled during the first or second week of October. Judging will occur in November. For full details, see the GM Innovation Challenge site.

USC Viterbi School of Engineering REACH PhD Preview Program
November 20-21, 2014
Los Angeles, CA

The Viterbi School of Engineering at the University of Southern California invites prospective graduate students with a background in engineering, math, or science to visit the campus and tour the engineering facilities, meet current graduate students, attend faculty-hosted workshops on applying for graduate study and funding, and receive an application fee waiver to apply for graduate programs at the Viterbi School.

Juniors or exceptional seniors with a strong research background who have taken the GRE are invited to apply for the REACH PhD Preview Program. Applicants must be U.S. or Canadian citizens, or U.S. permanent residents. Historically underrepresented students in engineering are especially encouraged to apply. Travel expenses to and from Los Angeles, lodging, and meals are subsidized by the Viterbi School. Apply online by October 13.
