EE 497C Wireless Communications: Virtual Laboratories

This site supports the Virtual Laboratory experiments for EE 497C Wireless Communications. These Virtual Laboratories are modeled from laboratory activities performed in resident instruction. They allow students to participate in completing lab activates independent of location and time.

There are three separate lab activities. Complete instructions and remote lab software access requirements are found within the ANGEL course site. The Data Collection Simulation for the Wireless Campus Lab is available below.

Wireless Campus Data Collection Simulation

Simulation Requirements
This simulation requires that your browser have:
bulletMacroMedia Authorware Web Player
bulletInternet Explorer 6
bulletBroadband network connection
bulletMinimum 1024 by 768 pixel screen resolution
bulletBrowser window maximized on screen

Other browsers and slower dial-up connection may not produce desirable results.

Go here to get the Authorware Web Player.

Simulation Instructions
Move your cursor across the campus map to reveal locations for data collection from the Penn State Wireless Network. Signal strength and tower number are displayed on the virtual cell phone just as you would see it with on a cellular phone setup in Field Test Mode.

Refer to the instructions found in the document, "The Wireless Campus Laboratory TDMA IS-136 Digital Network (1/2)". This document provides background information regarding the data to be collected as-well-as a data collection sheet to record your results.

Note that not all test points identified on the data collection sheet have been simulated on the virtual map.
