E MCH 213 Strength of Materials

Course Description

This course is designed to give sophomore students the fundamental knowledge of mechanics of materials and to develop the ability to predict whether a member made of particular material will be able to withstand a particular load condition without excessive deformation and fracture. Emphasis is placed on concepts of equilibrium, compatibility of deformation and material behavior.

This course is designed for Independent Learning with no fixed daily time schedule or meeting location. But it does have weekly homework, lab activities, and exams with scheduled start and end dates.

E MCH 213 STRENGTH OF MATERIALS ( 3) Axial stress and strain; torsion; stresses in beams; elastic curves and deflection of beams; combined stress; columns. Prerequisite: E MCH 211
