IE 478 Retail Services Engineering
Course
Description
The objectives of this course are
to understand modern retail industry with focus on their operations and
information technologies. The course starts with an overview of the basics
of types of retailing, their channels, and economics of their operations.
Much of the emphasis in the course is on processes and information
technologies used in retail industry such as point of sale systems, barcode,
RFID/EPC, data warehouse and analytics for decision support. An important
part of the course is the group project. Teams for the group project will be
formed with the help of CATME, which will also be used for peer evaluation.
This course is a senior under-graduate level technical elective course in
the IT and Service Engineering track in the Industrial & Manufacturing
Engineering Department. This course is also allowed for graduate credit in
the Industrial & Manufacturing Engineering Department.

This
course is designed for Independent Learning with no fixed daily time schedule or
meeting location. But it does have weekly homework, lab activities, and
exams with scheduled start and end dates.
