Local and Travel Information for State College and University Park

If you are planning to travel to State College and University Park for a meeting or continuing education program, you may find the following information helpful.

 

General Information -- The Penn State University Park campus is located in State College, Pennsylvania, a small university town nestled in the mountains of central Pennsylvania. On-Campus Hotels -- Penn State Hospitality Services operates two on-campus hotels, the Nittany Lion Inn and the Penn Stater Conference Center Hotel. Click here for information, reservations, and directions.

 

What's Happening -- At a large campus, like University Park, there's always something going on - sporting events, plays, concerts, etc.  To see what is happening during the time you plan to be on campus, click here to view various University calendars.

 

Weather -- The weather in Central Pennsylvania varies throughout the year - from warm in the summer to cold and snowy in the winter.  You can check on the current weather conditions by clicking here for the local weather and forecast.
 

Travel to University Park

If you are arriving by air, you can fly into the University Park Airport (code SCE) in State College, PA.  The airport is about five miles from town, and transportation is available.  Direct flights to University Park are available from the Pittsburgh, Philadelphia, Detroit, and Washington-Dulles airports.  It is also possible to fly into the Harrisburg, PA airport (code MDT) and drive to State College.  The drive, which is about 100 miles, takes approximately two hours.

 

If you are planning to drive to State College, you will find it located in the geographic center of Pennsylvania, near several major interstate highways (I-80 and I-99).
