Power
Engineering Programs - Overview
Background and Overview
Penn State's College of Engineering,
through its Professional Education Center,
headquartered in Monroeville, PA., provides comprehensive technical training
for graduate electric power engineers. Staffed by utility industry power
engineering professionals with many years of experience, the Center offers
both individual modules and complete programs.
Prior to becoming a total Penn State
operation in 1992, the Advanced School in Power Engineering was a partnership of Penn
State and the Westinghouse Electric Corporation. Since 1992, we have
broadened the instructor base and added over 40 technical modules which are
available for on-site presentation almost anywhere in the world.
We take great pride in providing quality
courses, covering a broad range of power engineering topics, and taught by
experienced faculty who are knowledgeable in both the theoretical and
practical aspects of their topics.
Programs Offered
Currently, Power Engineering programs are offered
via the following educational modes.
Advanced School in Power Engineering -
The Advanced School is a four-month, intensive program conducted in
Monroeville, PA, near Pittsburgh. The curriculum covers all aspects of
modern electric utility and industrial power systems and consists of
courses, workshops, special lectures, and field trips. Courses are taught
at an academic level, with extensive practical application. The school
is also an intense cultural experience for international students.
The school is divided into four independent and successive sessions:

Technical Modules - These are
intense one- or two-week training sessions that cover a particular power
system engineering topic in depth. Presently, we offer over 40
technical modules in the areas of Generation, Transmission, Distribution,
and Multi Disciplines. Since these modules can be presented almost
anywhere in the world, many customer elect to have them presented on site.

descriptions of each.
Custom Programs - Often, a customer
wants a training program customized for their particular needs and
situation. In this case, we:
 | work with the customer to identify the
customer's needs and desired training outcomes |
 | identify potential instructors
|
 | develop course outlines |
 | discuss the proposed courses and
instructors with the customer and refine, if required |
 | handle the delivery logistics
|
Thus, we provide a single source for the
complete program. Contact us,
if you would like to discuss a custom program.
Instructors
So that our students will receive the maximum
benefit and useful information from our courses, we recruit instructors who
have both practical experience and a love of teaching. All are experts in
their respective fields and several are industry society Fellows.
