A paper titled "Effect of Binder Course On Overlay Performance: A Case Study on I - 79" by Tanmay Kumar (Graduate student) and Dr. Ghassan Chehab (Assistant Professor) was selected for the third award from among more than 75 competing papers in the College of Engineering Research Symposium (CERS), 2006. The award includes a research and travel grant from the College of Engineering. The paper was based on work being carried out for the Preventive Maintenance on I - 79 project funded by Pennsylvania Department of Transportation (Penn DOT), District 10.

January, 2006
Work has begun afresh at the Penn State labs on Phase II of the Preventive Maintenance on I - 79 project funded by Penn DOT, District 10. This phase of the project will involve advanced testing of the asphalt mixtures used on the site at I - 79 as well as of modified mixtures. Further accelerated pavement testing using the MMLS3 will be carried out.

December, 2005
Work on the Evaluation of ALGRIP Slip-Resistant Plates for Pavement Applications has been completed as per schedule and a final report has been submitted. The project was funded by Ross Technology Corporation. Graduate student Vishal Kale was working on the project under extensive guidance from Dr. Ghassan Chehab.

Graduate student Tanmay Kumar has been awarded the Executive Leadership Fellowship by the International Road Federation (IRF) for the year 2005 - 2006.
