I'm in my 14th year as a faculty member in the CEE Department at PSU, having spent the 2008-2009 academic year on sabbatical at the School of Engineering at Tecnun, the Technological Campus of the University of Navarra in San Sebastian, Spain.
I received my Ph.D. degree from the
Georgia
Institute of Technology in Atlanta, Georgia in August
of 1999. My dissertation was entitled "Studies
of a Full-Scale Horizontally Curved Steel I-Girder Bridge System Under
Self-Weight."
My advisors
were
Dr.
Roberto T. Leon and Dr.
Abdul-Hamid Zureick.
I received my M.S. in Civil Engineering from Georgia Tech in December of 1995.

I have two main research focus areas: bridge engineering and force protection/structural hardening. However, I have been fortunate enough to have been involved with research in other areas, most significantly laboratory testing and structural health monitoring. Check my Research/Publications page for more specifics.
I teach courses related to steel structures, bridges, structural analysis and structural health monitoring. See my Teaching page for class titles.
I am married with two daughters - I love the ladies in my life! See my Personal page for info on my family and what else I like to do. Picture to the left shows us earlier this summer in Italy.
I would not still be around as a faculty member if it wasn't for my current and former graduate and undergraduate honors students (the other "Family"). For info on my current students and links to their pages see my Students - UG & Grad page. I am also attempting to keep track of my former graduate advisees on the same page.

LATEST NEWS (Winter 2012/13)
HAPPY NEW YEAR!! Mohammad Sharafbayani recevied his PhD during the Fall Commencement - CONGRATULATIONS AND BEST OF LUCK!! Congratulations to Scott Kinney as well for a successful proposal presentation in December! DoS Anti-RAM Cooperative Agreement computational and experimental work is going strong and many members of the Linzell research "family" are anticipating completing their degrees in association with this effort in 2013. Presentations at the 83rd Shock and Vibration Symposium in New Orleans went well and more force protection and bridge engineering research will be published and presented this year!
