The focus of our research group is on synthesis, characterization, and enhancement of new and existing cementitious materials for infrastructure and building applications. The goal is to develop new low-embodied-energy cements that incorporate industrial wastes, and to create new tools to better predict and enhance the durability of concrete structures.

Within this framework, some of our active research projects are listed below. For more information, please click here or check the Research tab.

  • Engineering and life-cycle assessment of recycled glass-based concretes
  • Reaction mechanisms, performance assessment, and novel mitigation tools for alkali-silica reaction in concrete
  • Characterization and modeling mass transport in cracked concrete
  • Enhancement of autoclaved fiber-cement composites
  • Safe and value-added utilization of coal-combustion products
  • Durability of alkali-activated concrete
