BIOGRAPHICAL SKETCH

Dr. Rahimian, an internationally recognized structural engineer and expert in the behavior of structures under seismic and wind loading, will present the structural design challenges of “One Word Trade Center” as the 21st Thomas C. Kavanagh Memorial Structural Engineering Lecture for 2014. During his thirty-plus years of experience and as principal-in-charge of analysis and design, Dr. Rahimian worked on projects that posed unique challenges and required innovative solutions. He has been responsible for implementing innovative conceptual designs for numerous high rise residential and commercial buildings, as well as athletics facilities and special structures in cities around the world.

Dr. Rahimian is presently the chief executive of WSP Cantor Seinuk, a leading structural engineering firm based in New York and a division of WSP Group, a global engineering firm with offices on five continents. Throughout his distinguished career, Dr. Rahimian proudly displayed his stamp on projects spreading from the USA to Mexico, China, and the Middle East. His talents have earned him international recognition, including the 2007 AISC Special Achievement Award, the 2005 ASCE-CERF Charles Pankow Award for innovation, and the ENR Excellence Award as one of the Top 25 Newsmakers of 2003. He also holds a U.S. patent for seismic protective design and he was named to Structural Engineer's Power List in 2011.
