Project Title: Field Evaluation Of A Through-Girder Bridge
Investigator: Dr. Daniel Linzell
Research Assistants: Deanna Nevling, Adrian Kollias

Funding Agency: Chester County, PA

Project Duration: Completed
References: Linzell, D. G., D. Nevling, A. Kollias, and J. A. Laman. "Experimental and Numerical Response of a 1915 Riveted Through-Girder Bridge," Journal of the Transportation Research Board, TRB, National Research Council, Washington, D.C., to appear.

A series of controlled field-tests of an existing single span through-girder bridge were performed and numerical studies were completed. The bridge owner was interested in ascertaining the structure's current load carry capacity, loads distribution patterns in the structure, and the level of composite action that existed. Results indicated that measurable levels of composites action were occurring for both the steel through girders and the floor beams.
