Transportation agencies across the US invest tens of millions of dollars in concrete bridge deck repair, replacement, and rehabilitation. These projects not only consume resources, but cause significant delays for the motoring public on highways and roads. This project uses Interstate 99 as a technology test bed to demonstrate and document the long-term properties of high-performance concrete bridge decks. The research approach integrates high-performance materials, improved construction practices, and comprehensive monitoring to document the best practice for long service life bridge decks. The proposed scope of work will impact 20 bridges on the I-99 project, of which 10 bridges will possess HPC decks and the remaining will be control decks or will be used to evaluate curing measures.
