Program Description: Materials engineering deals with the development, characterization, and specification of materials that are used in civil engineering construction. Materials studied include asphalt cement and asphaltic concrete, portland cement and portland cement concrete, admixtures, mineral aggregates, metals, wood, composites with polymeric materials, and waste materials. Students are provided with a basic background in the behavior of materials and the application of this knowledge to engineered construction.
