Geo-engineering and Pavements

Group Web Page

Program Description:
Geo-engineering and Pavement Engineering are two important disciplines of Civil Engineering associated with the characterization and behavior of natural particulate materials, pavement structures, soil-structure interaction, and infrastructure materials. Geo-engineering includes the study of soil characterization, soil mechanics and foundation design. The goal of Geo-engineering is to understand the fundamental phenomena of soil behavior, beginning at the levels of nano- and micro-scale particle interaction, and apply that knowledge to predict macro-scale material response for soil structure and foundation design. Pavement engineering covers the areas of: a) pavement structural design and analysis, b) material characterization using experimental, numerical, analytical, and imaging techniques; and c) pavement management, rehabilitation, and preservation.
