Dr. John Pisciotta
Post-Doctoral Researcher (2010-2012)

John Pisciotta's primary research focus was developing ways to synthesize biofuels using anaerobic bacteria.

Dr. Pisciotta obtained his PhD from Johns Hopkins University.

Dr. Pisciotta is now Faculty in the Department of Biology at the West Chester University.

Post-Doctoral Researcher (2011-2012)

Douglas Call's primary research focus was examining methane production in microbial fuel cells.

Dr. Call obtained his PhD and MS from Penn State University.

Dr. Call is now an Assistant Professor of Civil and Environmental Engineering at Syracuse University.

Dr. Younggy Kim
Post-Doctoral Researcher (2010-2012)

Younggy Kim is an environmental engineer with a background in ionic transport in ion-exchange membrance systems. Dr. Kim's research was on microbial desalination cells.

Dr. Kim obtained his PhD from The University of Texas at Austin in 2010. Dr. Kim is now with the McMaster University in Hamilton, Ontario, Canada

Post-Doctoral Research (2010-2012)

Justin Tokash's background is in electrochemical hydrogen storage and mathematical modeling. Dr. Tokash's research was on microbial electrolysis cells and developing new hydrogen evolution catalysis.

Dr. Tokash obtained his PhD in Engineering Sciences and Mechanics from Penn State University in 2010. Dr. Tokash will begin his work at the Los Alamos National Laboratory in May 2012.

Shaoan's work was on the design and analysis of microbial fuel cells.

Dr. Patrick Kiely
Post-Doctoral Researcher (2008-2010)

Patrick worked on genomic expression by microorganisms.  He obtained his PhD in 2008 from the National University of Ireland, Cork.

Maha worked on microbial desalination cell and her background was in microbially influenced corrosion of steels.  She obtained her PhD from the Institut National Polytechnique de Toulouse, France

Dr. Tomonori Saito
Post-Doctoral Researcher (2008-2010)

Tomonori worked on a material development in MFC and his background was in polymer synthesis.  He obtained his PhD from Virginia Tech in 2008.

Post-Doctoral Researcher (2006-2009)

Defeng worked on the AFOSR project on obtaining exoelectrogenic isolates from MFCs. He obtained his PhD in 2006 from Harbin Institute of Technology in China.

Dr. Huilian Ma
Post-Doctoral Researcher (2005)


Huilian worked on bacterial adhesion to metal oxide and other chemically-modified surfaces, and developing new methods for probing bacterial adhesion at the nanoscale.
 
Dr. Sang-Eun Oh
Post-Doctoral Researcher (2002-2006)

(Visiting Researcher, September to October 2001)

Sangeun worked on biological hydrogen and microbial fuel cells. He currently is an Assistant Professor in the Division of Biological Environment at Kangwon National University in Korea.
 

Dr. Hong Liu
Post-Doctoral Researcher (2003-2005)

Hong worked on microbial fuel cells and hydrogen production using modified microbial fuel cells. She is now an Assistant Professor in the Department of Bioengineering at Oregon State University.
 

Dr. Lichong Xu
Post-Doctoral Researcher (2004-2005)

Lichong worked on the NSF CRAEMS bioahesion project. He obtained his Ph.D. from the University of Hong Kong. Lichong is now a post-doctoral student at Penn State Hershey.
 

Dr. Virginia Vadillo-Rodriguez
Post-Doctoral Researcher (2004-2005)

Virginia worked on the NSF CRAEMS bioadhesion project. She obtained her degree from the University of Groningen in the Netherlands. She is currently a post-doctoral researcher at the University Guelph.

(Summers since 2001)

John is a Professor of microbiology at St. Francis University. His work at Penn State includes respiratory enzymes used for perchlorate reduction and biological hydrogen production.

Post-Doctoral Researcher (Since May 2002)

Baikun worked on the PPG project on bacterial adhesion and biofouling of different surfaces. She is currently an Assistant Professor at the Penn State Harrisburg campus
 

Dr. Jianlin Xu
Post-Doctoral Researcher (2001-2003)

Jianlin worked on perchlorate and denitrifying respiratory pathways in perchlorate and chlorate-respiring bacteria. He obtained his Ph.D. at the Ghent University in Belgium. He currently works for Nereus Pharmaceuticals in San Diego, CA
 

Dr. Stephanie Velegol
Post-Doctoral Researcher (2001)

Dr. Velegol (Ph.D. Carnegie Mellon, 2000) worked on the NSF CRAEMS project and used the AFM to image surface polymers on bacteria.

Dr. Glenn Burks
Post-Doctoral Researcher (2001)

Dr. Burks (Ph.D. UCLA, 2000) worked on the NSF CRAEMS project correlating bioadhesion measurements in minicolumns with AFM measurements in order to better understand and predict bacterial adhesion to surfaces.
