Assistant or Associate Professor in the area of
Geotechnical Engineering / Sustainable Civil Infrastructure
The Department of Civil and Environmental Engineering at The Pennsylvania State University invites applications for faculty positions at the Assistant or Associate Professor ranks in the areas of Geotechnical/Geo-environmental Engineering or Sustainable Civil Infrastructure Systems. Geotechnical/Geo-environmental candidates are sought with expertise in one or more of the following areas: computational and theoretical geomechanics; geophysical methods; geo-materials and systems behavior; and, biologically modified materials. Infrastructure Systems candidates are sought with expertise in one or more of the following areas: computational modeling of complex infrastructure systems; systems analysis and risk assessment with respect to the built environment; infrastructure resilience and hazard mitigation; and, development and application of new, recycled, energy-efficient, and smart engineered materials. Successful candidates will be expected to teach courses in the currently established CEE undergraduate program and courses in the graduate program in their respective areas.
The Department of Civil and Environmental Engineering at The Pennsylvania State University (http://www.engr.psu.edu/ce/) is highly ranked at both the undergraduate and graduate levels. The faculty consists of 29 tenured or tenure-track members. Excellent opportunities to interact with other faculty in multidisciplinary projects are available through the CEE Protective Technology Center, the Civil Infrastructure Testing and Evaluation Laboratory, the Larson Transportation Institute, the Materials Research Institute, the College of Earth and Mineral Sciences, and the Penn State Institutes of Energy and the Environment.
Required qualifications include a Ph.D. in Civil Engineering, or closely related discipline, and evidence of excellent potential in teaching and research. The position begins August 2010.
