Structural Engineering
The Pennsylvania State University, Department of Civil
and Environmental Engineering invites applications for a tenure-track
faculty position at the assistant professor level in the area of structural
engineering effective Fall, 2008. The successful candidate must have
an earned Ph.D. in Civil Engineering. The successful candidate will
be expected to teach graduate and undergraduate courses in structural
engineering. Candidates with research interests and expertise
in computational structural mechanics and/or structural dynamics are
particularly encouraged to apply. Opportunities to interact with other
faculty are available through the Protective Technology Center, the
Civil Infrastructure Testing and Evaluation Laboratory, and the Pennsylvania
Transportation Institute as well as other centers and institutes on
campus. The candidate must demonstrate exceptional promise to attract
research funding and will be expected to develop a strong sponsored
research program. Preference will be given to candidates who are either
registered professional engineers or who can become registered. The
candidate will be expected to participate in undergraduate and graduate
advising and participate on Department, College, and University committees.
The Department of Civil and Environmental Engineering consists of 32
full-time faculty, and offers programs leading to the BS, MS, M.Eng,
