Employers

The Cooperative Education & Professional Internship Program is part of Penn State's College of Engineering, which was ranked 17th overall in the nation in 2008 by U.S. News & World Report for the quality of its undergraduate engineering program. The Co-op & Internship Program is an excellent resource for employers who want to promote domestic and/or international co-op and internship experiences to students. In any given year, the program connects approximately 700-900 students seeking co-op and internship positions with hundreds of employers in 36 states and 11 foreign countries. Students earn academic credit for these work experiences, which they can apply toward their degree requirements.

We are pleased that you are considering Penn State engineering students for co-op or internship experiences with your company—let us help you engineer your future workforce!

Two Available Options

Cooperative Education

In a co-op experience, students complete work experiences that are directly related to their major. They combine on-the-job experience with classroom learning by alternating semesters of work and school during their sophomore, junior, and senior years. Co-op students are required to complete three work rotations, after which they graduate with one solid year of career-related experience.

Professional Internship

The primary goal of the internship program is to help direct students who have completed at least one semester at Penn State toward the selection of a major. Students complete a one-semester work experience that is related to their current or intended field of study; in many cases, a positive internship experience inspires students to pursue a co-op once they have declared a major.
