About The Program

The Cooperative Education & Professional Internship Program in the College of Engineering connects approximately 700-900 students seeking co-op and internship positions with hundreds of employers in 36 states and 13 foreign countries. Students earn academic credit for these work experiences, which they can apply toward their degree requirements. The practical professional experience that students receive as a result of their co-op or internship is invaluable, and students who have completed our program have a tremendous advantage when they enter the workforce. Our students develop not only the technical competence they need to be successful professionally but also the "soft skills"—including a positive attitude, collegiality, professionalism, and self-awareness—that they will require in any workplace.

But our program does more than simply connect students with engineering jobs! We are also working to strengthen our partnerships with Penn State faculty members and researchers and to find ways to foster linkages between engineering faculty and our industry contacts.
