Housing
"This internship was one of the best educational experiences I could have ever had in terms of working in an industrial setting as an engineer."

Housing at your co-op or internship site
Employers offer various degrees of assistance in finding housing—anything from supplying housing or a housing stipend to sending you a local newspaper so that you can search for housing on your own. Ask what kind of help your employer offers!
Things To Keep In Mind:
- Most employers will pay for relocation to your work assignment (e.g., mileage on your car and meals or hotel stays along the way).
- Most employers will pay for a few days' stay in a hotel in the city or town where you will work while you seek longer-term housing in the area.
- Most employers will provide the names and phone numbers of other students who will be on work assignment with you (from both Penn State and other universities).
- If there is a college or university near your work assignment, you may want to look for a sublet there.
- You are eligible to live in on-campus housing at any Penn State campus while you are on work assignment.
- The Cooperative Education & Professional Internship Program staff can refer you to former students who worked with your employer—they may be able to offer advice about housing.
Your Penn State housing during your work period(s)
If—like most participants—you will be doing your co-op or internship away from Penn State, you may be wondering what to do about your housing on or off campus during your work period.
On-Campus Housing:
Upon request, the Co-op & Internship Program can arrange to have your dorm contract cancelled for the semester you will be on a work assignment; however, you will still be responsible for the other half of your dorm contract. You must notify the Co-op & Internship Program if you need assistance.
Off-Campus Housing:
If you need to sublet your apartment, use Off-Campus Living to advertise your sublet. While the Co-op & Internship Program has no jurisdiction over off-campus housing, we have developed a sublet folder in our ANGEL database, which may be useful to you.
