Neues Rathaus:
Am Dr.-Külz-Ring steht das Neue Rathaus,
das die Architekten Karl Roth und Edmund Bräter 1905-10 errichteten,
als das Alte Rathaus für die am Ende des 19. Jahrhunderts wachsende
Stadtverwaltung nicht mehr genügte. Der 99 Meter hohe Turm, nach
dem Baustil des Barocks gestaltet, erhebt sich über dem Baukörper.
Auf dem doppelt geschwungenen Kupferdach steht der
vergoldete Rathausmann, ein 5 Meter großer, vollbärtiger Herkules,
den Richard Guhr schuf. Doppelsäulen und eine statuengeschmückte
Balustrade kennzeichnen den unterteilten Bereich des Turms. Der
Rathausturm ist längst ein Wahrzeichen der Stadt, obwohl er einst
wegen seiner Ausmaße und der Nähe zum Kreuzkirchenturm heftig
umstritten war. Vor der mit vergoldeten schmiedeeisernen Gittern
verzierten Goldenen Pforte stehen zwei bronzene Löwen des
Bildhauers Georg Wrba.
On Dr.-Külz-Ring stands the Neue Rathaus (new city hall),
which the architects, Karl Roth and Edmund Bräter, built in 1905-10, when
the Alte Rathaus (old city hall) was no longer sufficient for the
growing city administration, at the end of the 19th century. The Baroque
99-meter-high tower rises over the body of the building. On the double-swung
copper roof stands the gold-gilded Rathausmann (city hall man), a
five-meter-high, full-bearded Hercules, which Richard Guhr created.
Double columns and a balustrade, decorated with statues, mark the lower
region of the tower. For a long time, the city hall tower has been an emblem
of the city, although it once was highly controversial because of its proportions
and its proximity to the tower of the Kreuzkirche (church of the holy cross).
Before the Goldenen Pforte, which is decorated by a gold-gilded
wrought-iron gate, stand two bronze lions created by the sculptor Georg Wrba.
