Paulskirche:
Diese mächtige Kirche, die sich am Paulsplatz in der Mitte
der Frankfurter Altstadt befindet, wurde gegen 1787 vom Stadtbaumeister Johann
Andreas Liebhardt als Ersatzbau für die Barfüßerkirche entworfen. Johann Friedrich
Christian Hess vollendete den Bau gegen 1833, weil früher Revolutionskriege die
Bautätigkeit unterbrachen. Der klassizistische Zentralbau hat einen elliptischen
Grundriss, und die Rotunde und der Frontturm sind mit rotem Sandstein verkleidet.
Während des Wiederaufbaus, der 1948 vollendet wurde, wurden einige
Eigenschaften der ursprünglichen Gestaltung verändert.
This powerful church, which is located in the center of Frankfurt's old city,
was designed around 1787 by the city architect, Johann Andreas Liebhardt,
as a replacement for the Barfüßerkirche. Around 1833, Johann
Friedrich Christian Hess completed the construction, because, earlier, the wars
of revolution interrupted the construction. The classical central building, the
rotunda, has an elliptical ground plan. The rotunda and the front tower are
covered in red sandstone. During the reconstruction, which was completed
in 1948, a few features of the original design were changed.
