The Communications and Computing Group
consists of three major elements: Computer and Software
Support Group, The Network Infrastructure Support Group
and Training Support Group. The primary mission
of these three groups is to provide the College of Engineering's
Administration, Faculty and Staff with the maximum computing environment
flexibility, services and support in all their data communications
needs.
Computing
Support: Computer and Software Support Group personnel
assume the primary missions of maintaining the College's Administrative
Servers and interacting with Faculty and Staff on matters concerning
College wide Communications and Computing. Their primary roles
are to assist Faculty and Staff with configuring hardware and
software on departmental servers or personal computers to ensure
clients can effectively communicate within the College, among
their University colleagues and outside the bounds of the University.
Also, personnel are responsible for establishing College user
accounts and maintaining the College's Mail Servers.
Network Support: Personnel
in the Network Infrastructure Support Group assume the missions
of maintaining and servicing the College's Fiber and Cable plant
as well as the communications hardware that distributes network
services. Additional missions include providing connection services
to faculty and staff, interacting with the University's Information
& Technology Services on matters that effect communications
outside the College Network and planning future directions for
the College Communications and Computing environment. The group
is also responsible for providing Voice over IP Unified Messaging
Services.
Software Training:
Training Support Group personnel have the mission to provide the
College's Faculty and Staff with classroom and individualized
training on commonly used software packages. The expertise of
the Center's Training staff enables them to provide quality training
for commercially available productivity software. Training is
also offered for College applications. Their expertise includes
the ability to assist in training the College's Administrative
Staff on University based productivity enhancing software developed
to meet Penn State's Administrative Information Systems specifications.
