HEDS-UP presentation booth. Space Day event at Penn State organized by the PA Space Grant Consortium (PSGC) for all Penn State groups who are involved in space-related research and education to exhibit information about their programs at this public event. The event was held in the Alumni Hall of the HUB/Robeson Center.
Space Day 2000 at Penn State was a celebration of space science and
exploration with exhibits and hands-on activities for the whole family.
Jim Pawelczyk, Penn State's resident astronaut who flew aboard the Neurolab
mission in 1998, gave two presentations on the Neurolab mission and
talked about what it takes to be an astronaut. The Neurolab mission studied
the effects of microgravity on the body.
At Space Day, you can also discover how Penn State researchers and
scientists are contributing to our understanding of stars, black holes, and
extrastellar planets, the origins and distribution of life in the universe,
communication systems in space and more.
Dave Reese, Curriculum Specialist from Intermediate Unit 19 in Archibald,
Pennsylvania, brought the excitement of the night sky down to earth with
guided tours through a Starlab, a mobile planetarium that projects
constellations on the dome ceiling.
Door prizes featuring NASA and Space Day memorabilia and teacher kits were
given away to children, students, and teachers attending Space Day 2000
at Penn State. The Pennsylvania Space Grant Consortium sponsored space Day
2000 at Penn State. For more information, call Angela Phelps, Space Day
