Orientation

The one day orientation will be held on Sunday, August 25th, 2013 from 9 am until 2:30pm, the day before classes start, to provide the first-year students with all the information they need to know about Penn State, the College of Engineering, and their classes. This will also give them a time to meet some of their classmates and friends. The students will be part of a mentoring group and each group will have a mentor who is an undergraduate student currently enrolled in the College of Engineering. The orientation will start with a quick opening session led by the EON Board of Directors. At the opening, students will meet up with their mentor groups. Then the mentors will lead their group to their first session of the day. The orientation will consist of an information session, The Lion Games, and a computer session. Each group will attend every session throughout the day. The Lion Games constists of several small competitions that require teamwork and skill to win. During The Lion Games there will be a lunch break and then the students will attend the rest of the sessions in the afternoon. Once the groups have attended all of the sessions, the winning group and color of The Lion Games will be announced and they can claim their prize.

The events are spaced out so students will have an opportunity to see the campus as they walk between events. At the end of the day, the point totals will be tallied and the members of the winning mentor group will receive the grand prize. In addition, the color that has earned the most points throughout the day will earn a minor prize that is given to each member of that color. There will be opportunities to earn bonus points by solving riddles and visiting sites between events.

Computer Session:

During this session, students will learn about Penn State specific websites. They will learn  how to use and navigate the webpages which will help them during the first few weeks of classes.  The session is held in a computer lab with two instructors showing the students the different websites on a projector. Each student will be seated at their own computer so that they can follow along with the instructor. After the instructors have presented the information, the students will have activities to complete using the information that they just learned. Upon completion of an activity they will be awarded a prize! All the information covered in the session will be available on EON's website.
