Benefits for First-Year Students
The transition from high school to college can be quite a challenge. There are so many new things and people that it can be a tad overwhelming. EON is here to help with that transition.
EON places each first year student into a mentor group with a bunch of other first-year students and an upperclassmen engineering student to act as a mentor.
The mentor group will then attend the orientation the Sunday before classes start. During the orientation, students will obtain the necessary knowledge for them
to make a smooth transition for high school to life at Penn State, by attending different sessions throughout the day.
The direct benefits from being apart of EON are:
- Help ease the transition from high school to college
- Teach you everything you need to know to survive your first weeks as a college student at Penn State
- Assign an upperclassmen mentor for you to be able to ask questions
- Meet other freshman engineering students
- Learn how to use all of Penn State's Websites
- Discover the most important buildings are on campus
- Explore all the different engineering majors
- Meet professors and ask them questions
- Become acquainted with the College of Engineering
- Network with companies who are looking for first year students
- Attend professional development sessions to get a head start on your career
