Engineers Without Borders - Project - Service Trips

The Alternative Spring Break Trip is an annual trip taking place over Penn State's spring break. We coordinate with The Fuller Center for Housing and remodel or build houses for deserving families. This trip is designed to bring club members together while partaking in a fulfilling volunteer project. We travel to different regions of the country and put our handy-work skills to good use by making a difference in the lives of deserving people.

2013 Trip: Louisiana and New Jersey

During Penn State's 2013 spring break, 39 EWBers partook in its first ever two locations Alternative Spring Break Trip! Seventeen EWBers went to Atlantic City, New Jersey to assist with the Hurricane Sandy clean-up while the remaining folks left to Hammond, Louisiana which was devastated by Hurricane Irene. Altogether, the group had fantastic experiences and created many lasting friendships.

2012 Trip: Georgia

Starting in 2012, seventeen EWBers made the fourteen hour drive to Lake Blackshear, Georgia where we finished the siding and roofing for soon-to-be homeowners of Walter and Robin. Meeting the to-be homeowners had an amazing impact on the group as we gained a broader perspective of life hardships.

During Spring break 2011, EWB-PSU went to southern Louisiana to help local families who are still recovering from the devastating hurricanes. They spent a week repairing and building houses for a local community. This year, EWB is partnering with the American Society of Mechanical Engineers student group to return to New Orleans for a second trip in March 2012.
