Concurrent Majors in Engineering and Language or International Studies (Undergraduates Only)

COLLEGE OF ENGINEERING MAJORS & GLOBAL AND INTERNATIONAL STUDIES

The Colleges of the Liberal Arts and Engineering offer a concurrent degree program that results in a B.S. in Global and International Studies (GLOBE) and a B.S. in a College of Engineering major. Go to Concurrent Majors Program in Global and International Studies [PDF] for a description of the program and its requirements.

Students must go through the regular entrance-to-major process and be admitted to a College of Engineering major before they can register for the concurrent majors program with GLOBE. Students who are planning or are registered in this program are advised to pay particular attention to the Arts, Humanities, and Social and Behavioral Sciences courses they select. Careful selection of courses in these areas may enable students to use such courses to meet both general education and GLOBE requirements at the same time. Students should consult with their advisers in both majors when selecting courses.

COLLEGE OF ENGINEERING MAJORS WITH FRENCH, GERMAN OR SPANISH

Students wishing to combine the study of French, German or Spanish and an engineering major may participate in a formal concurrent degree program that will result in a B.S. in French, German or Spanish, and a B.S. in a College of Engineering major. College of Engineering students are eligible to enroll in the B.S. degree in French with the Engineering Option, in the B.S. degree in German with the Engineering Option, or the B.S. degree in Spanish with the Engineering Option. Go to Concurrent Majors Program with French [PDF], Concurrent Majors Program with German [PDF], or Concurrent Majors Program with Spanish [PDF] for a list of the courses required to meet the degree requirements for each of the language majors in the Concurrent Majors Program.

The French/Engineering, German/Engineering or Spanish/Engineering degrees are baccalaureate programs offered by the French and Francophone Studies, German, or Spanish Department for students who wish to combine study in French, German, or Spanish language and culture with an engineering major. In addition to taking courses offered by the language department, students use engineering courses to complete the requirements for the B.S. in French, German or Spanish major with the engineering option.

Students in these concurrent degree programs need to pay particular attention to the Arts, Humanities and Social and Behavioral Sciences courses they select. Careful selection of courses in these areas will enable students to use such courses to meet both general education and French, German, or Spanish degree requirements at the same time. Students should consult with their advisers in both the language and engineering departments when selecting these courses.

For a concurrent major with another language, please consult with an adviser in that language's department.
