These programs are designed specifically for students in the College of Engineering, and are offered in the summer. They allow students to earn credits in various engineering majors and apply them towards their degree requirements.
This is a 3-credit, 3.5-week course offered right after the spring semester (in the first summer session). Students will travel to a number of cities in China to explore the cultural impact on engineering in China. College of Engineering students may petition to use these 3 credits as a GS and 3 credits as IL. The course is designed to help students understand some of the current challenges of globalization, and will enable students to learn Chinese history and culture on site in China. Students will participate in field trips to some major engineering projects and learn the cultural impact on engineering.

Energy Tomorrow: An Engineering and Management Perspective is a 6-week course for engineering students that explores energy and sustainability, with a focus on new developments in energy efficiency and renewable energy technologies. The program is based on a ninety-hour combination of lectures, tutorials, laboratory work, demonstrations, site visits, computer simulations, assignments and discussion periods. The program takes place from mid-June through late July. This program offers an exciting way to experience some of Australia in the summer.
The Architecture Department offers a 12-credit, 7-week summer term in Rome, Italy for Penn State Architectural Engineering students. This is an intensive academic, cultural, and maturing experience. While much of the lecturing involves site visits to Rome archeological sites and other Italian cities, students should be committed to a heavy workload. All classes will be offered at the Sede di Roma facilities located in the heart of Rome, in the Piazza Collegio Romano.
