Summer 2009 Program and Application

This summer’s program will continue to focus on green building and increasing solar energy awareness. Two student teams will install a photovoltaic grid tied solar array and a solar hot water system on the Tech Center at Chief Dull Knife College, built in 2004 by AIHI.  The project’s high visibility will help the College in their efforts to expand their developing sustainability education program and provide a model to the surrounding communities about the benefits of solar energy.  Students will also introduce a new Home Energy Use tool they developed in class this spring to perform informal residential assessments on homes in the area.

Workshop fee: $600.00 Nonrefundable.

Participants will be provided with food, on site transportation, and transportation to and from the Billings Airport. The experience includes camping out (a list of supplies needed will be provided) and Cheyenne cultural activities select evenings. Participants must provide for their own transportation to Billings, Montana or may drive directly to the reservation (carpools recommended.)

Dates:
June 28 to July 4

What other information can you provide that may be helpful in our

Who should we contact in case of emergency?

There are certain details that you should take into consideration before attending a project. Most areas of the country that we work have extreme weather conditions. Temperatures range from very hot and dry (100° F) to cold and damp (30° F). During our summer projects, much of the time is spent in the great outdoors. The construction/rehabilitation work itself is at times very strenuous and can be dangerous. However, we will do everything possible to make our projects safe and secure for all our attendees.

An adult must accompany volunteers between the ages of 13 and 18. Because of liability issues, children under 13 years of age are not permitted to attend.

All volunteers will be responsible for their own transportation to and from reservation project sites.
