| Salary Equity Study |
How does one establish a salary to be paid to someone else? It helps to have corporate guidelines or pay scales. It also helps to have comparative salary figures from peer institutions. It also helps when a prospective employee stipulates a desired salary.
It also helps to have comparative information pertaining to your own organization. The College of Engineering (COE) has developed an application to provide this information to our Human Resource Representative and Dean for Administration and Planning. This application is referred to as our "Salary Equity Study".
Using human resource information such "class", "appointment type", "grade", "date hired" and "appointment date" the salary equity application computes a predicted salary for a newly hired person or an existing employee. This application can also be utilized to identify salary inequities among current employees.
Predicted salaries are generated using regression analysis with residuals and prediction. Independent variables such as "grade", "PSU time in service", "Unit time in service" are utilized to arrive at a dependent variable of "salary". Predicted salaries are computed for all staff and then compared to see who, in relation to their peers, may be under or over paid . |
