POLICY REGARDING
ACCESS TO AND USE OF THE COLLEGE OF ENGINEERING DATA WAREHOUSE
The College of Engineering data warehouse is available to all departments,
faculty and staff of the College of Engineering. Access to the warehouse
will be granted to those individuals who have a documented need
to the data contained therein. The data served by the data warehouse
is a subset of the University’s operational information systems,
therefore this data must be protected in a manner consistent with
the operational and procedural safeguards established by the University’s
Office of Administrative systems. Information hosted by, and individuals
granted to the College of Engineering data warehouse are required
to comply with University policies regarding communications, computing,
security and privacy. In short, individuals who are granted access
to the warehouse and the data contained therein must attest in writing
that they have read, understand and agree to the terms and conditions
of University policies AD-20, AD-23, ADG-1, ADG-2 and AD-11. These
policies are listed below and the full text of these documents can
be found on the University’s General University Reference
Utility (GURU) at http://guru.psu.edu.
The purpose of the College of Engineering data warehouse is to
satisfy information requirements of College efforts which support
the mission of the College of Engineering and its departments, programs,
and administrative areas. Policies generated by the College of Engineering
pertaining to the College’s data warehouse are in addition
to those created by the University and are not intended to supercede
any existing University policy. In any event, University policies
will govern the resolution of issues regarding the publication of
information on the College Data warehouse.

Definitions:
- Data—information, in any form
- Field—a specific instance of data
- Record—a collection of fields organized
for a specific purpose
- Table—a collection of records organized
for a specific purpose
- Database—a collection of tables organized
for a specific purpose
- SQL Server—software that maintains database
tables, supporting structures and programs
- Data Warehouse—term applied to server
database configuration that is primarily a read only resource
intended for informational rather than operational purposes

Engineering Policies:
- Engineering faculty and staff (users) will be granted access
to the College of Engineering data warehouse provided they can substantiate a need for warehouse information and have
attested in writing to have read, understand and agree to the
terms and conditions of AD-11, AD-20, AD-23, ADG-1 and ADG-2
- Users must acquire an Engineering domain account.
- Access privileges to the warehouse and the tables, fields and
records contain therein will be established based upon a users
domain account.
- Users will be granted read access to data, served by the data
warehouse, which originated from University operational systems.
- The College of Engineering Information Systems will maintain
all groups, accounts and access privileges.
The College of Engineering Information Systems reserves the right
to amend these policies in order to assure the proper functioning
