POLICY REGARDING USE OF THE COLLEGE
OF ENGINEERING WORLD WIDE WEB (Web) SERVER
The College of Engineering Web server is intended to support the
mission of the College and the University. More specifically it
is to be used to publish information pertinent to the College, Engineering
departments, programs, student organizations, centers and courses.
The College of Engineering Web server is not to be used for the
publication of personal, political, religious or other forms of
information that do not specifically support the mission of the
College, or for the distribution of commercially available software.
Any information hosted by the College Web server and any individuals
or organizations authoring information on the College Web server
are required to comply with University policies regarding communications,
computing, security and privacy. These policies and others can be
found on the General University Reference Utility (GURU) server.
Links to several pertinent documents are provided below. Policies
generated by the College of Engineering pertaining to the College
Web server are not intended to supercede any existing University
policy. In any event, University policies will govern the resolution
of issues regarding the publication of information on the College
Web server.

Definitions:
- Publisher—any department, program, student
organization, center, or engineering course that represents a
sponsoring organization (e.g. the Department of Mechanical Engineer,
Tau Beta Pi, ECSEL, AE124).
- Author—an individual that edits hypertext
markup language (HTML) documents.
- Group—one or more authors having access
to a directory containing publisher information.
Engineering Policies:
- Engineering departments, programs, student organizations, centers
and courses, hereafter referred to as publishers, may publish
information on the Engineering Web site.
- Pages of a personal nature should be hosted by the University’s
Web server.
- Authors must establish a computer account on the Engineering
domain (network).
- A "WEBMASTER" group will be established for each
publisher.
- Authors will be made members of their respective "WEBMASTER"
(e.g. WEB_ME_MASTER) group and will be granted read, write, delete
and execute control of their respective directories.
- Authors and publishers will be responsible for content of the
publisher’s Web pages as well as results of server side
processes initiated by those same pages (e. g. common gateway
interface or CGI scripts).
- The Information Systems (IS) will maintain all groups and accounts.
In the event that the College Web server support staff needs to
amend these policies to assure proper functioning of this service,
authors will be appropriately notified. Any comments can be addressed
