Web Services

The Information Systems Group currently maintains and provides support for the College of Engineering World Wide Web services. These services are divided into two main areas:

Design Services:

  • The Information Systems is responsible for all aspects of the design and maintenance of the College of Engineering web site (www.engr.psu.edu). This web site was recently given a complete overhaul and many interactive and dynamic elements were added. These include: News & Events section, Weekly Electronic Newsletter, News Archive search, etc.
  • We have designed various web applications that integrate one or more databases. Some of these applications include: Engineering Advising Center On-Line Calendar, Course Pre-Requisite Check, Faculty Self Report of Activity, Senior Exit Survey System, etc.

Hosting Service:

  • We are responsible for the hosting and security of the College of Engineering web site (www.engr.psu.edu).
  • We host 12 other web sites for departments and Engineering units such as: Electrical Engineering (www.ee.psu.edu), Aerospace Engineering (www.aero.psu.edu), Nanofabrication Center (www.nanofab.psu.edu), etc.
  • We manage various levels of security for the web sites hosted on our server. Most of these web sites require distributed authoring environment where one or more web author may have access to the site, or portions of a site. Security is implemented through share-level permissions and web authors MUST have an Engineering domain account.
