Goals of the TI Program:

--Improve the quality of learning and teaching
--Enhance students' knowledge and skills related to course
--Enhance students' learning skills
--Enhance teaching and learning within the class
--Improve the interns' presentation and interpersonal skills through interaction with students

TI Program - Logistics:

--TIs should be matched to courses that they have completed
--TIs should have access to a good location for office hours and evening help sessions
--TIs receive a stipend of $1,500 per semester
--TIs typically work an average of 10 hours per week throughout the semester

Responsibilities of Mentor:

--Develop a "mentoring" relationship with the TI, including regular meetings
--Communicate your goals for the class to the TI
--Consider using the TI to assist in active learning in the classroom such as group problem-solving, projects, or demonstrations
--Be sensitive to ethical conflicts that may arise for your TI in interactions with peers
--Do not use your TI simply as a grader
--Establish a set of duties for your TI, which could include: holding office hours and/or evening help sessions for the students; teaching several classes under your supervision; assisting during active learning activities in your class; attending your class and providing feedback; and participating in testing and LIMITED grading in the course

Responsibilities of TI:

--Attend ENGR 497I Teaching Intern Seminar
--Execute duties as defined by your mentor
--Meet with faculty mentor to establish duties and consult, as needed, throughout the semester

For the Department Coordintor:

Each department has a Department Coordinator that will receive all applications the students submit to their major (Pam Adams also recieves a copy).

Department Coordinators should submit their Department’s choice(s) through the Department Selection page by April 15, 2013.
