Gregory Lucier
Chairman and CEO, Invitrogen
Gregory T. Lucier is Chairman and CEO of Invitrogen Corporation, one of the world’s leading biotechnology companies and the leading technology supplier to the biotechnology and pharmaceutical industries. He heads an organization comprised of more than 4,000 global employees with revenues surpassing $1 billion and products in nearly every major life science lab.
Greg is a graduate of Industrial Engineering at Penn State and was nominated for the award by Rick Koubek, Head of IME. In his nomination, Rick wrote:
“Greg’s leadership is vital to the success of Invitrogen. He came to the company with a clear vision of becoming an organization that would make an impact on modern healthcare by offering a comprehensive technology portfolio or “system” for all areas of disease research and drug discovery. With Greg at the helm, Invitrogen has already moved from revenues of roughly $770 million to more than $1.2 billion and is positioned to become the essential partner to companies involved in medical research everywhere.”
Under Greg’s leadership Invitrogen has also focused on ‘giving back’ in a number of ways. In a recent editorial in Quest magazine, Greg wrote “From reducing waste and conserving natural resources to developing less hazardous research materials, our resolve for improving and sustaining the quality of life on this planet underlies everything we do as a company.” One way Invitrogen demonstrates this commitment is through an annual ‘Global Volunteer Day’ when its employees perform a variety of volunteer work in their local communities such as cleaning up parks and improving trails. In addition, Invitrogen is a co-sponsor of the National Biotech Educator Award, which “recognizes exemplary teaching at the high school level that has positively impacted students’ understanding of biotechnology’s promise and challenges.”
