What is VIEW for the student?

Visit In Engineering Weekend (VIEW) is a weekend-long engineering program for current high school sophomores and juniors. The program is designed to nurture your interest in engineering. Participants will be involved in a handson design activity with emphasis in the following areas:

• leadership qualities,
• interpersonal skills, and
• creative problem solving.

VIEW is designed to develop the skills you will need to be a successful engineer in the twenty-first century. You will discover how engineers turn ideas into reality. You will learn about problem-solving techniques, and you will see how engineers are valued for their dedication to serving humanity. Engineers make things:

• work better,
• quicker,
• more efficiently, and
• less expensively.

Engineering is everywhere. Some examples are:

Civil engineers:


Computer engineers:

Mechanical engineers:

design, plan, construct, and operate the physical works and facilities essential to modern life, such as, airports, bridges, highways, water and wastewater distribution and treatment systems.

work with the design of computer system use for information processing.

design and develop very small mechanical components, such as gears, huge power plants.
