Five engineering students receive awards from the Graduate School

UNIVERSITY PARK, Pa. – Five engineering students received awards in recognition of outstanding achievement during the inaugural Graduate Student Awards Luncheon held April 27 at the Nittany Lion Inn.

Bioengineering graduate student Brittany Banik was awarded the 2016 Graduate Student Service Award. Established in 1991, the award recognizes a graduate student who has best combined high academic achievement with leadership in University or other public activities.

Mohammadreza Aminikashani, electrical engineering, and Po-Hsun Huang, engineering science and mechanics, received the Alumni Association Dissertation Award. It provides funding and recognition to outstanding full-time doctoral students who have passed their comprehensive exams and have received approval of the dissertation topic. Each student received $5,000.

Yuexiao Shen, chemical engineering, is the recipient of the Harold K. Schilling Dean’s Graduate Scholarship. Created in memory of Dr. Harold K. Schilling, professor and former dean of the Graduate School, the scholarship provides a minimum of $2,000 of financial assistance to outstanding graduate students whose course of study is relevant to science, religion and ethics.

The Thomas and June Beaver Fund Award recipient is Feng Guo, engineering science and mechanics. The award provides a minimum of $2,000 in financial assistance to outstanding graduate students who are performing industrially sponsored research in connection with the Ben Franklin Partnership Fund Program.
