EMIX Sponsor Information
Program Description
The Engineering Mentoring for Internship Excellence (Engineering MIX!) program is a collaborative effort of the Engineering Career Resource and Employer Relations and the Office of Engineering Diversity. It was created in an effort to broaden the employment pool for coorporate partners. This internship development program is designed to prepare 15 (or more) diverse student interns for the science and technology industry.
At the end of this training, all students will be prepared to enter assigned internships June-August of 2011 and will receive official internship or cooperative education credit for this effort. This process will be implemented in the following phases: Student Recruitment, Academic and Professional Development, Field Trip to sponsoring corporate site, Internship Assignment. Sponsoring corporations will provide information for the selection process, welcome students and provide a tour of the corporate facility, and will pay a competitive wage to summer interns. The sponsorship level for Professional Development of these students is $3,890 per student. This covers weekly seminars, guest speakers, travel to the corporate site, the cost of one cooperative education credit, coordination and administrative support. Each corporation may choose to fund the number of students desired, preferably three or more, as we have found that students are more successful when they are positioned to form group support systems.
