EMIX Students

Program Description

The Engineering Mentoring for Internship Excellence (Engineering MIX!) program is a collaborative effort of the Engineering Career Resource and Employer Relations and the Office of Engineering Diversity. It was created in an effort to broaden the employment pool for coorporate partners.  This internship development program is designed to prepare 15 (or more) diverse student interns for the science and technology industry. 

Application Process

  • Provide a resume and personal statement regarding career interests.

  • Identify preferred coporation and describe why.
    Attend interview (probably scheduled for October or November). Interviewers will be representatives of Engineering Career Resource and Employer Relations, and Engineering Diversity.

  • Interested corporations may conduct additional interviews if they choose.

Professional Development Meetings

Participants will attend a weekly career develpment meeting (typically evenings) to build a sense of team as well as for the development of their research projects. These meetings will be 1 hour in length. Dinner will be provided. Attire for all meetings is business casual, with exception of the final presentation. There will be 10 or 11 usable weeks that follow.

EMIX Timeline

September 2010: EMIX Corporate Sponsorship deadline

October, 2010: EMIX Intern Candidate Interviews conducted at University Park

November 2010: EMIX Intern Selection and Notification

January 2011: EMIX Orientation; Selected interns will participate in a 2-hour business dinner meeting at the Nittany Lion Inn.

February - April  2011: EMIX Professional Development workshops (one per week TBD)

March/April 2011: Corporate Site Visit for interns

April 2011: EMIX Intern Professional Presentations. Corporate Sponsors encouraged to attend (date TBD)

May/June - August 2011: EMIX Internship at sponsor site
